Nigaam: A Legacy of Artistry from the Heart of India
Nestled in the arms of the Nahargarh and Jhalana hills in northwestern India, Jaipur is a glittering jewel of a city set like a gemstone into the surrounding natural beauty. It is a city adorned with architecture that, like a fine piece of jewelry, from afar displays a monolithic unity but upon close inspection reveals myriad facets and intricacies both intentionally crafted and beautifully imperfect.
Like the most striking pieces of jewelry, Jaipur is almost overwhelming in its elaborate beauty, too much for the eye to take in all at once, something to be savored at length, appreciated from all angles. It is only fitting that this city, nicknamed the Pink City for its streets and buildings bathed in an otherworldly pink hue, would become the epicenter of worldwide jewelry production.
Everywhere you look in Jaipur you find inspiration. From the natural beauty of the city’s parks and gardens and the hills that surround and protect the city, to the awe-inspiring architecture like the Hawa Mahal, a pink sandstone palace alive with blooming honeycombs of windows, domes, and latticework, it’s no wonder that this city became home to so many fine artisans. The city itself is a work of art.
Deep in the heart of the jewelry capital of the world is the Johri Bazaar, the city’s commercial center. Inspiring artistry and lively commerce go hand-in-hand in Jaipur, and nowhere is that more evident than along this wide boulevard flanked by endless rows of shops packed wall-to-wall with the hand-made products of some of the world’s finest tailors, woodworkers, metalworkers, and, of course, gemcutters and jewelers. Beyond the colonnaded walkways that line the boulevard you’ll find a maze of side streets and alleyways built long before the automobile, wide enough for only pedestrians and motorbikes, made even more narrow by the modest shops standing shoulder to shoulder overflowing with extravagant treasures.
Thirty years ago, you would have found us there, immersed in the energetic, hard-working, and creative spirit of the Johri Bazaar. The city where we got our start is not just an inspiration to us. We are a product of its centuries-long heritage, and everything we do embodies this heritage. You can see it in the time-honored techniques we used to produce contemporary pieces that set trends and catch the eye of the most discerning collector. You can see it in our respect for a tradition that pushes the boundaries of the feelings a piece of jewelry can evoke and the stories it can tell, blazing new trails while never losing touch with our roots.
We’ve gone on to explore the world, to incorporate new ideas from a lifetime of experience into our work, but every piece remains deeply rooted in the jewelry tradition of Jaipur while offering something new, unique, and transcendent. Join us on this journey and become part of history’s greatest jewelry tradition.
